What is the Objective of a Breast Lift?
A breast lift, medically known as a mastopexy, is a breast surgery that uses various techniques to tighten and lift the breast. The primary objective of a breast lift is to help women who have lost elasticity in their breasts to regain a youthful perk. This procedure can also be used to reduce the size of the areola or to reposition the nipple area completely.
How Can I Benefit From a Breast Lift?
A breast lift can prove beneficial for women who have experienced the unavoidable effects of gravity. As we age, our body goes through a number of changes, including loss of elasticity, which can cause the skin to loosen and sag. In women, this occurs, particularly in the breasts. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight gain or loss can affect your breasts by causing them to droop or point downward. A mastopexy can trim away the excess skin and reshape the breasts to the desired results. Dr. Mang can also reposition the nipples and areolas to provide a natural, lifted appearance.
Preparing For a Mastopexy
When you sit down for your initial consultation with Dr. Mang, you will be able to discuss your desired body goals and how best to achieve them. He will assess your medical history, any current health issues, and any medications or vitamins that you are taking. He will be able to provide you with a list of instructions to help you prepare for your upcoming surgery. Dr. Mang also recommends patients use arnica topically to help with swelling and bruising both before and after surgery.
Can I Combine Other Procedures with a Breast Lift?
In many cases, patients will require multiple breast surgery procedures to achieve their desired results. A breast lift can be performed in conjunction with another breast surgery to help patients achieve their desired results. When combined with a breast implant procedure, it can improve the overall shape and size of the breasts by helping to give them the most natural appearance possible.
Are the Results of a Mastopexy Permanent?
A breast lift will help to reverse the signs of aging you have experienced up until that point. However, it stands to reason that you may go through additional changes, particularly if you intend to get pregnant or breastfeed following the procedure. While the cosmetic surgery procedure is considered a permanent treatment, your body may fluctuate and continue to be affected by the natural effects of aging. You can call our office at any time to schedule an appointment for a follow-up consultation.
What to Expect After Breast Lift Surgery
For the first week or two, you will be very limited and will need to take time away from work and your regular commitments. After that, you will be able to return to work and non-strenuous activities.
In the first day or two following the procedure, your breast will likely feel sore and swollen. This will subside within the first week and can be soothed with arnica and medication prescribed to you by Dr. Mang.
Once your bandages can be safely removed, you will be instructed to wear a special bra or compression garment for at least a month. After a month or two, you will be able to resume your normal exercise routine and the full effects of your procedure will show within six to 12 months.
