About Cheek and Chin Augmentation

Hollow or sunken cheeks may make you seem older than your actual age. Additionally, a recessed chin can impact the overall appearance of the jawline and profile. At Rejuve Aesthetic Surgery in Tampa, FL, Dr. Brandon-Dzung Mang performs cheek and chin augmentation to enhance the beauty of your facial features. We can improve the contour of your cheeks or define your jawline with minimally invasive dermal fillers or longer-lasting silicone implants. During your consultation, Dr. Mang will discuss dermal fillers and implants to determine which treatment works best for you. To attain fuller cheeks or a stronger jawline, please contact our office and schedule an appointment to learn more about surgical or nonsurgical cheek and chin augmentation.

What are the benefits of a cheek and chin augmentation?

As age impacts the volume and location of our skin, it can make us appear older than we are. Patients at Rejuve Aesthetic Surgery who receive cheek and chin augmentations enjoy a number of age-rewinding benefits, including:

  • Revitalized, volumized cheekbone structure
  • More chiseled or stronger profile and features
  • Ability to minimize double chin
  • Restored confidence and self-esteem

Is Cheek or Chin Augmentation For You?

Ideal patients for cheek or chin augmentation are men and women who:

  • Want more volume in their mid-face
  • Have age-related volume loss in their cheeks
  • Have naturally hollow or flat cheeks
  • Have lost a significant amount of weight, resulting in deflated cheeks
  • Have imbalanced cheeks because of a congenital defect, a health condition, or trauma
  • Prefer a more defined jawline
  • Have a recessed chin
  • Have a fuller-looking neck
  • Maintain good health

Injectable fillers are a good choice for patients who don't want to commit to the time and expense of surgery. Because dermal fillers create temporary results, they may also help patients have a better idea of their preferred amount of volume. This gives them an idea of what to expect before committing to surgery. Surgical cheek or chin augmentation with implants is a good choice for patients who prefer a longer-lasting solution. Patients who prefer implants also need time for recovery.

Surgical Technique

Before your treatment, Dr. Mang will perform a thorough exam and create a customized treatment plan that aligns with your unique cosmetic goals. During your consultation, you can choose from surgical cheek or chin implants or nonsurgical dermal fillers.

Dermal Fillers

Taking around 20 – 30 minutes to complete, dermal filler treatments are considered an outpatient procedure. At the beginning of your treatment, we will mark the injection sites along the cheeks or chin. Next, we inject the fillers into the marked areas and massage the skin to ensure your cheeks look even. Right after your treatment, you can leave and resume your daily routine.

Cheek or Chin Implants

Surgical cheek and chin augmentation is an outpatient procedure that we perform in our AAAHC-accredited surgical facility. We will start either procedure by administering general anesthesia. During cheek augmentation with implants, Dr. Mang creates thin incisions through the upper gums, and a pocket is created over the cheekbones. Next, the implants are placed inside the pocket, and your incisions are closed with sutures. For chin implants, the incision is made underneath the chin or inside your lower lip. The implant is placed into the pocket, and Dr. Mang closes the incisions with sutures. Following either of these procedures, you will need a responsible adult to drive you home so you can start your recovery.

What to Expect

For about 1 – 2 weeks after your procedure, you will experience slight swelling, tightness, and bruising. At first, you should avoid strenuous activities that can strain your facial muscles for about 7 – 10 days. Optimal healing usually takes around two months, but your results are long-lasting.

Following a dermal filler treatment, the mid-face or chin will feel sore and you may have some mild swelling for about 3 – 5 days. To minimize any discomfort, Dr. Mang recommends cold compresses and over-the-counter pain relievers. Generally, patients can see their final results in 10 – 14 days. To maintain your results, you will need to schedule follow-up appointments with Dr. Mang. He can help you determine when to schedule your next appointment.

Cheek And Chin Augmentation FAQ

What type of dermal fillers do you use for injections?
During your consultation, Dr. Mang will examine your face and talk to you about your aesthetic goals to help determine the best dermal filler to help you reach those goals. The JUVÉDERM® line of dermal fillers, Voluma in particular, is specially formulated to help restore lost volume in the cheek area. This advanced hyaluronic acid formula can both enhance the cheeks and fill in sunken, hollow areas.

Can fat grafting help to fill in my cheeks?
Yes, it can. Dr. Mang uses the latest advanced fat grafting techniques to restore lost volume in the soft tissues of the face in the cheek and eye orbit areas. By using your own fat to restore volume, Dr. Mang can achieve a natural look and feel while creating a more youthful appearance. During your consultation with Dr. Mang, he can discuss the options available to restore volume and whether cheek augmentation or fat grafting is right for you.

What's the difference between mentoplasty and genioplasty?
Chin augmentation surgery, also called mentoplasty, is a procedure that builds shape to your chin. On the other hand, genioplasty is a procedure that reconstructs the chin bone. Based on the condition of your chin as well as your cosmetic goals, you might require both surgeries or just one. A genioplasty, in addition to being a cosmetic procedure, may also be performed to improve your dental bite or another medical concern. PrimaryPractitioner.ShortName- can help you choose whether to get a genioplasty, mentoplasty, or both.

Will augmentation fix my double chin?
A chin implant is designed to offer you a stronger, sharper look to the lower face. If you want to correct a double chin, you may be a better candidate for a liposuction procedure to have the excess fat in your submental area (the upper neck below the jawline) is addressed. Sometimes neck liposuction on its own can create a new jawline and appearance without a chin implant. Dr. Mang will go over your choices and his suggestions in your consultation.
