What is Kybella®?

A double chin is a hereditary condition that affects many individuals, though it can also develop over time due to weight gain or as we age. Kybella® is a FDA-approved dermal filler treatment that can effectively reduce the appearance of submental fat and eliminate the dreaded double chin. The procedure is an excellent alternative to invasive surgical procedures and requires minimal downtime. Kybella® is designed to target the fatty deposits around the chin and jaw area to give patients a tighter, more distinct contour.

Who Can Benefit From Kybella® Injections?

The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery states that over 60 percent of all Americans suffer from a double chin. It is often impossible to get rid of a double chin entirely through just diet or exercise alone. Patients who have struggled to reduce the submental fat that has accumulated under their chin may benefit from Kybella® injections at Mang Plastic Surgery. Men and women who are in good health and have realistic beauty expectations may be eligible for medical spa services at our office in the Atlanta area.

How Do Kybella® Injections Work?

Kybella® is specially formulated with a serum made with deoxycholic acid that is designed to find and target submental fat and break it down. Using a super fine needle, the formula is injected directly into the double chin, just under the skin. The length of the procedure will vary based on the amount of treatment required. Once the fat cells are destroyed, they will no longer be able to form, making Kybella® a safe and effective permanent treatment.

Preparing for Kybella®

Prior to coming in for your Kybella™ appointment, you will be asked to refrain from taking medications that may interfere with the procedure, such as ibuprofen, aspirin, or blood thinners. This can help to reduce your chances of developing bruising around the injection site. While waiting for their Kybella® injections, patients may be offered a topical anesthetic to help reduce any discomfort during the treatment.

What to Expect After Kybella®

Kybella® does not require patients to take any time off work or everyday commitments. The procedure will be over in as little as 30 minutes to one hour and you can return to your day-to-day activities.

Tenderness, redness, and swelling may develop after treatment but will typically subside in a few hours. Arnica, a natural herb, can be applied topically to help alleviate some of these symptoms.

Over the course of the next few weeks, you will see the effects of the deoxycholic acid become visible. A follow-up appointment will be made to observe your progress as you heal.
