How Can Plastic Surgery Enhance My Appearance?

Cosmetic plastic surgery is a great way to alter, amend, or improve certain features on your face or on target areas throughout your body. Naturally, everyone’s body has structural flaws or imperfections that can distract from your natural beauty and negatively affect your self-confidence. Plastic surgery is also highly effective at correcting conditions that have developed from injury, genetic defects, illness, past surgeries, and more. When performed by an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon such as Dr. Mang, plastic surgery can be successful in improving body image by eliminating unwanted blemishes and enhancing your overall appearance,

Who is A Good Candidate for Plastic Surgery?

Just about anyone over the age of 18 who is in good general health can be an eligible candidate for plastic surgery. Some procedures are even suitable for children who are healthy enough to undergo a minor surgery. If you have unwanted imperfections throughout your body that you would like to improve, such as wrinkles, sagging skin, defects due to illness, injury, or genetics, disproportionate features, or similar issues, you may be an ideal candidate for plastic surgery. If you or a loved one is considering undergoing a cosmetic surgery procedure, an initial consultation with Dr. Mang can help you understand if plastic surgery is right for you.

Here are some of the procedures we offer at Mang Plastic Surgery:

Are There Any Special Preparations That Should Be Taken Prior to Undergoing Plastic Surgery?

Before you actually undergo plastic surgery, there will need to be steps and preparations made to help prepare yourself and the target area ahead of time. If you smoke or drink heavily or are on certain medications, you may be advised to stop prior to your procedure. Your medical history will be taken into consideration during your initial consultation and any steps you should take will be clearly outlined by one of our dedicated team members. Additionally, Dr. Mang highly recommends all patients use arnica (a natural herb) throughout the body before and after your surgery to help decrease bruising and swelling associated with plastic surgery procedures.

How Long Does it Take to Recover From Plastic Surgery?

The recovery from a plastic surgery procedure will be unique to each patient and depend greatly upon the surgical procedure they underwent. The actual length of a recovery period will vary based on a patient’s overall health, stamina, age, as well as any particular post-care instructions that may be required. To help minimize the length of your recovery, be sure to follow Dr. Mang’s instructions closely and to refrain from any strenuous activity until you are fully healed. During your consultation, you can discuss any necessary steps that will need to be taken pre- and post-operatively.

Are the Results of Cosmetic Surgery Permanent?

When you schedule a plastic surgery procedure, you should expect the results to be permanent. However, this does not mean that your body’s natural fluctuations in age, elasticity, collagen production, and weight will not affect your initial results. Additionally, you may find that a follow-up treatment can be helpful to address additional concerns that may arise in the future.

What Can Be Expected From a Plastic Surgery Procedure?

Work: How quickly you can return to work will depend greatly on the extent of treatment received and how much recovery time will be needed to properly heal.

Swelling and Bruising: Naturally, you will experience inflammation and tenderness in the areas around where your stitches or sutures were. Compression bandages will need to be worn for the first part of recovery. You may be prescribed pain medication or OTC aids to help with swelling and any pain from bruising. Additionally, arnica is an herb that can be used to help alleviate these symptoms.

Discomfort: Following your treatment, you will likely need some assistance around the house so you don’t put too much strain on your body. You may experience some discomfort or pain post-operatively but that can be addressed with medication or topical ointments, as recommended by Dr. Mang. If at any point you feel extreme pain or discomfort, please contact our office.

Results: Each patient’s final result may vary slightly, including scarring and overall appearance. It may take several weeks before you can truly admire the results of your procedure. We offer before and after pictures of real patients to help offer a better idea of what can be expected from various plastic surgery procedures.
